Folkstyle is unique to the US and freestyle is done throughout the world, but the interest here for real wrestling seems to be minimal. I do a lot of no-gi jujitsu which is immensely helpful in wrestling and vice versa but wonder why it is so hard in finding practice partners.

Yes, I do some Real Wrestling, but mostly just play. Men around here dont do much more than that, so we play along or nothing.

I tried for years to find guys to do amateur wrestling. Finally gave up because no one was interested. Not much wrestling in high schools in the South other than Florida. A few years ago, no high school in Mississippi had a wrestling team. May still be that way. Finally, once guys finish high school, they just won't wrestle. Sites like wrestlemen and should be a source but I have had guys swear to me they were into amateur and then when we met, wanted to wrestle in speedos, jocks or nothing at all and didn't know a wrestling hold if they were put in one. They thought that I was after sex despite my telling them emphatically that I wrestle for fitness and sport.

Hey bamawrestle - had I known you in high school - I'd have loved to wrestle you

It seems that few here really know anything about wrestling but post to impress others rather than demonstrate any real experience on the mat. They emulate the fake pro stuff rather than admit they would never get on the mat to do real wrestling. If you go to an MMA gym you will find real wrestlers. Many profiles here are not truthful regarding age, knowledge of the sport, or experience. It would help a lot if the owner of the site would include amateur moves in the holds check off as well as eliminate the age requirement in one's profile. When you go to the gym, your partner rolls with you and doesn't ask these things, just wrestles. The site should also have takedown choices listed as well.
